Accused suspect in 1975 eastern Ontario 'Nation River Lady' murder returning to Canada
Ontario Provincial Police say a man accused of killing a woman and dumping her body east of Ottawa in 1975 is on his way back to Canada.
The OPP said in a statement that investigators escorted Rodney Nichols from his home in Hollywood, Florida to eastern Ontario. The OPP in Florida is assisted by the US Marshals Service in international operations.
The OPP have charged Nichols with murder in the death of Jewel "Lala" Langford, identified in US legal documents as Lala Jewel Langford.
The remains of a woman were found in the Mellat River, a short distance from the Highway 417 bridge near Castleman on May 3, 1975. She became known as the "River Lady of the Nation" because her identity was not known at the time.
