Montreal bans the use of natural gas in new buildings
With the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the city of Montreal is preparing to ban gas connections in new buildings starting next year, with certain exceptions. The plan was inspired by the successful experiences of Vancouver and New York, which previously implemented similar bans. Valerie Plant, mayor of Montreal, announced in a news release that "the bylaw to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from new buildings represents the spiritual leadership of the city of Montreal in the field of environmental issues."
