New career leave in Ontario for those with serious illnesses such as cancer
Ontario is currently exploring a new leave to ensure that employees who are dealing with cancer or other illnesses can have peace of mind that they won't lose their job while seeking treatment.
Ontario announced on Thursday morning that this leave is equivalent to the duration of federal sickness benefits, which is 26 weeks.
Meanwhile, the Doug Ford government also announced on Thursday that it will soon introduce legislation to support injured workers, providing the possibility of raising workplace safety and insurance benefits (WSIB) above the annual inflation rate.
David Piccini, the Minister of Labour, Training, and Skills Development, said, "Our government recognizes that injured workers need more support, which is why we are taking action."
