One person is believed to have died in a fire at a property near the U.S. border in Langley, British Columbia, during a major police operation, RCMP said Saurday.
B.C. Police Superintendent, Bureau of Independent Investigations B.C. (IIOBC), confirmed that it is now investigating an incident in which two police vehicles were badly damaged by fire.
According to an RCMP press release, officers responded to a report of a "disturbed" person in the 23000 block of 0th Street at 10 a.m. the following Friday.
But officers heard gunshots when they arrived and called the force's Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT). RCMP were inside the building: The IERT tried several ways to contact the man who had barricaded himself.
Around 10:40 p.m., a fire broke out and eventually engulfed the building. It is believed that the person left the building and is believed to have perished in the fire.
