Toronto Public Library book returns stored in 12 trailers since cyber attack
The Toronto Public Library has been storing returned books in 12 off-site trailers since a cyber attack hit the institution on Oct. 28.
Books remain in storage until they are electronically checked out at the library and returned to circulation, said Anna Maria Critchley, director of communications for the Toronto Public Library (TPL).
Currently, Critchley said, the new check-in and check-in details are on a page that is uploaded to the library's software.
"It's been a big job and just last week, we've successfully signed up new members and cleaned up the accounts of around 845,000," he said.
It's been two and a half months since TPL's website, public computers and printers went dark and hackers took private information of current and former employees, including Social Security and government identification.
"While the investigation is ongoing, the library is a crime scene," TPL City Librarian Vickery Bowles wrote in a Dec. 20 year-end message.
