Two people were charged with drug trafficking crimes after a traffic stop in Chatham.
Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, an officer on routine patrol saw a vehicle passing through the intersection of Landing Pass and East High Street.
According to police, upon conducting a traffic stop, the officer discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver's license and was subject to several driving prohibition orders.
A search of suspected cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and oxycodone with an estimated street value of $8,000 was found. Officers also recovered a weapon.
   A 52-year-old man from Chatham was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign and driving while suspended under the Highway Traffic Act. He was also charged with illegal possession of weapons, four counts of possession of weapons contrary to the prohibition order, and four counts of possession of controlled substances for the purpose of smuggling.
A 61-year-old Chatham woman was charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to traffic.
