Ottawa residents who want to file their vacant unit tax returns before the new year can do so and file their returns today.
The City of Ottawa has announced that it plans to open the filing portal by the end of today, more than two weeks before the official filing period begins in the new year. The exact opening time of the portal has not been determined. This portal will also be accessible through your MyServiceOttawa account.
The deadline to declare a home owned, occupied, vacant or exempt is March 21, 2024. Anyone who declares after the deadline will pay a late fee of $250. Late filing is allowed until April 30. If no declaration is issued by April 30, your home will be considered vacant and you will have to pay 1% more than your home's appraised value on your finance bill.
